Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is performed by a chamber orchestra that has been distributed throughout the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center. Perfectly synchronized via networked metronomes, the musicians play not only in the foyer and galleries but in the offices, maintenance rooms, and other spaces typically off-limits to visitors. The audience, while prevented from hearing the ensemble as a whole, is invited to roam, encountering intersections of sound as they traverse the space.
